MORGAN STUART
SOFTBALL INSTRUCTOR & ENTREPRENEUR

From National Champion collegiate softball player to instructor and mentor to young players, experience and an overachieving spirit have driven Morgan Stuart’s career path.

Following a championship at the University of Washington in 2009, expectations were high for the Husky infielder. Failing to meet these lofty goals in 2010 spun Morgan into depression that briefly forced her away from the game she loved.

As Morgan began her coaching career, she struggled with feeling comfortable in her own skin. She battled with the public speaking element of coaching large groups, but as time went on, Morgan began to own her role. “As I’ve really understood why I’m here and what brought me here, it’s done wonders for my confidence, and that’s what I hope to pass on to these girls.”

Those earlier failures that haunted Morgan are exactly what drives her success now. “[I now] use those feelings as self-reflection, not just sitting in it and being upset. These deeper issues that I was dealing with in college, some of these girls are feeling [now], even though they might not even be sure what they’re feeling.”

“[It’s about] maximizing failure, and then being able to overcome any obstacle that they might see in their path…[I]t's applicable to anything.”

With a grueling travel and training schedule, softball is full-time, but Morgan understands the value she brings to her students. “Some of these girls don’t have the mentors, don’t have the parents, and I want to create this space for [them] to go and have questions answered. That’s very important to me.”

While Morgan is still figuring out what her future will bring, the present is about mentorship. “[It’s about] maximizing failure, and then being able to overcome any obstacle that they might see in their path…[I]t’s applicable to anything.”
