Though always interested in documentaries, it wasn’t until Karam tore his ACL in college and realized he couldn’t continue playing soccer, that he completely shifted focus to filmmaking. When Karam was 20, he began creating G-Funk, the story of rappers Warren G, Nate Dogg, and Snoop Dogg. The feature takes the audience through the journey of the three childhood friends as they created a new sound and helped popularize hip hop music in the early nineties. Debuting earlier this year at SXSW, four years after its inception, the full-length documentary is set to come out the end of Summer 2018.
Karam understands the competitive field he’s in, chasing a career that so many others dream of. Storytelling is global, and the need to differentiate yourself is everything. His advice? “You need to immerse yourself in an almost crazy level, to the point where it’s not really rational. [Ask yourself], ‘Do I really want this? Or do I REALLY want this?’”
