ARMANDO VEVE
ILLUSTRATOR
The son of Puerto Rican immigrants, Armando Veve felt like an outsider growing up in Vermont. That isolation led him to drawing – an escape that allowedhim to create another world. Now a highly sought-after graphite artist, as well asthe winner of two gold medals from the Society of Illustrators, Armando creates elaborate illustrations, bringing his worlds to life for the enjoyment of others.
"It's finding happiness in the work and challenging yourself."
Knowing from a young age that he wanted to control his path, Armando chose a life of freelancing instead of a corporate environment. I think just the fact that this is still going for me is a big achievement. There are things, like awards and the [2018] Forbes 30 Under 30 list that I can be very proud of, but at the end of the day, I feel like they’re not what keeps you going. It’s finding happiness in the work and challenging yourself.”
Relentlessly working, often taking on multiple projects at a time, Armando manages to continue attaching emotion to each piece. “There’s something that happens in my brain that’s very euphoric. It’s painful, but at the same time, when you are able to overcome a certain challenge…it’s extremely rewarding, especially when you see the printed image and see how people respond to it. Sometimes to even see things that you never intended. I think that’s when it’s most exciting.”
