At 14 Arlissa began an arduous journey for the gifted musician, but it has led her where she is today, creating powerful songs and allowing her lyrics and voice to showcase her originality and emotion.
She began by posting videos online, garnering interest from different labels. Right away, Arlissa signed on to the first label she met with, fearing that they would be the only ones interested. This turned into four years of tribulation as they battled creatively at every turn. “They didn’t understand me. Didn’t let me do what I needed to do. Didn’t let me write what I wanted to write.”
Soon after her contract ended, Arlissa began to post her own music online, including the hit Hearts Ain’t Gonna Lie. The world responded by viewing and sharing Arlissa’s music, opening up new career options and giving her control of her own path.
“When you’re told 'no' all the time, it makes you realize you don’t actually have to listen.”
Now, a much more tenacious Arlissa knows what she wants. “When you’re told ‘no’ all the time, it makes you realize you don’t actually have to listen.” It’s one thing to have a voice, but another thing to HAVE a voice. Though hearing ‘no’ has become part of her life, she remains focused on using it as motivation. “It makes me want to work harder and prove people wrong.” Based on her experiences, Arlissa is full of advice. “You owe it to yourself to stay in your own lane. Don’t look at what other people are doing around you. Help yourself out.” Taking her own advice, Arlissa remains completely true to herself, ready to release her new album on her terms.
